There is no Centre - Digital Art Exhibition

Join us for the opening of THERE IS NO CENTRE, an online exhibition featuring video games, virtual environments and digital images, sculpture and video work. Expanding on the gestures of first-person video games, each work is situated as a spatialized experience to be explored through the web browser. Curator Katie Micak will give a virtual tour of the exhibition over livestream, discussing the potential of digital media as it intersects with traditional modes of viewing.

The artworks in the exhibition investigate themes of translation, speculation, and consumption. The exhibit features works by Thoreau Bakker, Milumbe Haimbe, Elizabeth LaPensée and Weshoyot Alvitre (et. al), Adrienne Matheuszik, Tom Sherman, Fallon Simard, and Xuan Ye.

THERE IS NO CENTRE is the first in a series of digital exhibitions created through the MacKenzie Art Gallery’s Digital Exhibitions Toolkit and Art Installation Launcher (DETAIL) that supports the development of digital art exhibitions for digital platforms. DETAIL is funded by the Canada Council for the Art’s Digital Strategy Fund.
